Background

Ethel was in her own troupe before meeting Dell. She decided it was better to be surrounded by the prettiest girls she could find in her dance routine, only to reveal herself and have the audience laugh with her at her deformity.

Dell convinced her to leave her troupe, this turned out to be a mistake. As her troupe went on and continued to be famous, Ethel became a failure as she attempted to recite Shakespeare. It was here where Ethel and Dell made a down point in their relationship as they were becoming poor. Not only did Ethel's shows fail, but she wasn't able to perform as much when she was pregnant with Jimmy.

Personality and Appearance

Her deformity is simply a beard. Other than that, Ethel appears normal. Rather short and stout, with a thick Baltimore accent.

Ethel is a very headstrong and respected woman among the Freak Show. She's Elsa's second in command, and she tolerates no disrespect to either herself or Elsa. Even when Elsa admits her selfish reasons of adopting Bette and Dot, Ethel stands by her. With a strong maternal instinct, Ethel is willing to do anything to protect her son. Ethel nearly killed Dell when he tried to harm the infant Jimmy.
